In March 2020, Oracle discontinued Premier Support for OVM (Oracle Virtual Machine) but is providing 'Extended Support' until March 2024.


OVM is being replaced with Oracle's OLVM, which is a blend of Oracle Linux and KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) solution.


OLVM offers many advantages over OVM including the ability to benefit from Ksplice.

Oracle OLVM uses KVM to allow the operating system to virtualize itself.


This means that by using Oracle Linux, you can utilize hard partitioning to isolate the exact number of cores required for each virtual machine which could result in significant reductions in Oracle licence liability.

Unsupported Linux

If you are using an unsupported version of Linux, such as RHEL, CentOS, or Oracle Linux, you may be putting your system at risk as you will not receive the latest security patches.
